Octoraro
Reservoir - Preserving Our Ecology
The Octoraro Reservoir is where CWA’s drinking water starts its
journey from our treatment plant to your home or business. Preserving the environment of the reservoir and
its watershed (the land around the reservoir) is an important part
of our commitment to providing quality drinking water. The Octoraro
Reservoir also offers recreational opportunities, including boating,
fishing, picnicking, and bird watching. While parts of the reservoir are
restricted, the public has access to nearly 500 acres
of the reservoir.
For fishing, you’ll need to purchase
a Pennsylvania fishing license, available at most local sporting goods
stores at a cost of $15 to $20. Fishing is permitted year-round from the
shoreline, and by boat from
mid-April until October 31. Information about the fishing
and boating regulations is
available here on the Chester Water website
or call (717) 529-2244.
Boats––only electric motorboats or
rowboats are allowed––can be set into the water at the Spruce Grove
Road access area, located one-half mile west of Route 472. During the
April-to-October season, boats can be rented at the reservoir’s Fishing
Headquarters, where you can also buy refreshments, fishing bait, and
lures. Picnic tables are available at the boat access area.
