Working
Together Means Better Water for All
The process of ensuring the highest
water quality for all CWA customers gets underway before water enters and
is treated at the Octoraro Treatment Plant. It begins with a growing
partnership between the Authority and the civic, government, and private
caretakers of the water sources and surrounding lands. These lands make up
the watershed of the Octoraro Reservoir. CWA is committed to preserving
and protecting the watershed––an important part of its commitment to
providing quality drinking water to its customers.
The Authority has forged a strong and
lasting partnership with the Octoraro Watershed Association, Partners for
Wildlife, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the Pennsylvania
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and local farmers. The
Lancaster and Chester County Soil Conservation Districts and Ducks
Unlimited have been active participants in many of the Stream Bank
projects in the Octoraro Watershed.
This partnership bridges the gap
between the citizens who receive their drinking water from the Octoraro
Reservoir but do not live in the watershed, and the landowners who live in
the watershed but do not get their drinking water from the Octoraro
Reservoir.
Working together means proving the
highest-quality drinking water for CWA customers and the cleanest water
possible for wildlife, agriculture, and recreation. The program was
recently cited by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as an
example of excellence.
