One More Clean Water-Storage Tank

In 2000, as part of Chester Water Authority’s proactive preventive maintenance program, a 10-million-gallon steel water-storage tank located in the Village Green Tank Farm in Aston Township, Delaware County, was inspected for structural stability and was then refurbished.  During the tank rehabilitation, the interior and exterior of the tank were cleaned and repainted.

The refurbishment of Tank No. 8 was completed in October at an approximate cost of $1,090,000.  Chester Water Authority has a total of 90 million gallons of treated water in storage at Village Green to ensure that your supply of water will not be interrupted.  Maintaining the nine tanks there is only one of the proactive steps we take in making sure water is at the faucet when you need it.

Keeping Our Water Supply Clean

Qality drinking water begins with quality water at its source.  Waters feed our primary source of water, the Octoraro Reservoir, from the surrounding Octoraro Watershed.  A watershed is the land area drained by a stream or river.  Any rain or snow that falls in the watershed of the Octoraro Creek flows into that stream, by traveling over land or through the ground.  That water eventually ends up in our drinking water supply – the Octoraro Reservoir.

To protect the water quality of the Octoraro Watershed, Chester Water Authority has forged a strong and lasting partnership with the Octoraro Watershed Association.  This association is a group of volunteers that works to protect the approximately 140 square miles of the Octoraro Watershed.

Over the years, this association has presented many educational and outreach programs about how to keep our water clean and protect the environment.

Currently, one of the goals of the Octoraro Watershed Association is to increase its membership.  If you, or someone you know, is interested in protecting the environment and would like to get involved with the Octoraro Watershed Association, please contact its secretary, Mr. Pat Fasano, at (717) 529-2132.  If you prefer, you can e-mail him at owa@desupernet.net.
