2003 Water Main Rehabilitation Project

The 2003 Water Main Rehabilitation Project has begun!  Since its inception in 1974, Chester Water Authority has rehabilitated 38.8 miles of water main throughout our service area.  This project also includes the rehabilitation of valves, service lines, and fire hydrants in the project area.

This year the Authority is focusing on two areas.  The first is located along Highland Avenue from Front Street to Seaport Drive in the City of Chester, Delaware County.  Approximately 1,000 feet of 8-inch diameter cast-iron water main will be cleaned and lined.  In addition, an existing check valve pit will be retired as part of this project.

The second rehabilitation project is also located in the City of Chester.  Approximately 6,800 feet of 6-inch; 2,400 feet of 8-inch; and 1,300 feet of 12-inch diameter cast-iron water main will be rehabilitated between Morton Avenue, 9th Street, and Vauclain Street.  An additional three feet of 2-inch diameter galvanized-iron water main will be replaced with 4-inch diameter ductile-iron cement lined (DICL) water main in Thomas Court.  Also, there will be 800 feet of 6-inch diameter cast-iron water main replaced with 8-inch diameter DICL water main in Hyatt Street.  Many of the 500 customers served in this area will have their water service connections renewed.

As with past water main rehabilitation projects, the goal of this project is to enhance the water pressure in these areas and to improve fire flows to hydrants for greater firefighting capability.  Once again, CWA takes a proactive stance by maintaining our water distribution system.

Get To Know Us!

Chester Water Authority (CWA) would like for you to know more about us.  We have a Speaker’s Bureau available to our customers.  Our representative can create a presentation to suit a specific water-related  subject – water conservation, water treatment, how we get water to your home, and much more.  For over four years, the Authority has given presentations to adult groups, elementary schools, youth organizations, and college groups, but we still haven’t met everybody.
