Drought Update

Despite all of the rain that we have received, Chester Water Authority is still operating in drought emergency conditions as proclaimed by the Governor of Pennsylvania.  We’re all in this together, so let’s pull together and help to conserve water whenever possible.  Listed below are simple but important conservation tips.  The Authority thanks our customers for all of their water-saving efforts!

1.

Install low-flow toilets, showerheads, and faucet aerators.

2.

If your water meter is inside your house, practice routine, common  sense leak detection by “zero-reading” your water meter periodically. Check your meter before and after a half-hour (or longer) period when no water is being used.  If your meter is registering water use, you have a leak.

  3.

Repair dripping faucets and leaky toilets.  Dripping faucets can waste water continuously over a 24-hour period.  A slow, steady drip can account for 350 gallons a month; a fast drip, 600 gallons a month; a small stream, 2,000 gallons a month; a large stream, 4,600 gallons a month.  Leaky toilets can waste as much as 200 gallons each day.  If you would like a leak calibration meter, contact our Customer Service Department at 610-876-8181 or 800-793-2323.

4.

Run the dishwasher and clothes washer only when they are fully loaded.

5.

Insulate your water heater and hot water pipes.  Less water will be wasted before hot water flows.

Financial News

In April 2002, the Authority issued $10 million in Water Revenue Bonds.  The proceeds from the bonds will be put toward the Authority’s capital improvement program, which includes the purchase and installation of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) devices, design and installation of additional pumps in three booster stations, and reconstruction of the Oxford Booster Station.  Also included are a variety of proactive projects such as large tank cleaning and painting, and water main rehabilitation programs that ensure that our water system will always meet the needs of the entire customer base.  Improving our ability to provide quality, service, and value is our never-ending goal.
