Water Main Rehabilitation Project: Bringing
Quality Water to You
As part of its ongoing efforts to upgrade existing water mains,
Chester Water Authority (CWA) will be working on a special project
in Chester City and Nether Providence Township this summer.
The $500,000, three-month project will upgrade one mile of the
Authority’s water main distribution system. The project will
consist of cleaning and cement lining six-inch diameter water
mains and replacing smaller diameter water mains with six-inch
diameter ductile iron cement lined (DICL) water mains. In
addition, seven fire hydrants will be renewed.
This year’s project is part of an ongoing program that to
date has rehabilitated over 35 miles of water main. The goal of
the ongoing project is to increase hydraulic capacity of the
distribution system, to increase fire hydrant flow, to improve
water quality, and to provide increased service life to the below
ground infrastructure.
The areas involved in the City of Chester are along Morton
Avenue between Baldwin Street and Sun Drive, along Chestnut
Parkway between Providence Avenue and the City of Chester
boundary. The area in Nether Providence Township includes the
Nether Providence boundary and Harvey Road. CWA does not expect
any major disruption to normal traffic patterns during the
project.
At the same time, CWA will also be installing automatic meter
reading devices (AMRs) in these areas. With AMRs, the meter
readers can determine your water usage without having to go inside
your home.
Whether you are home or not, we will be able to get an accurate
reading of your water meter. Your meter reading––and water
bill–– will reflect your actual water usage, whether you are
at home, out for the day, or on vacation. The AMRs are being
installed at no charge to Chester Water Authority customers.
