Have Water - Will Travel
It’s summertime, and that means long car trips for people all
across the United States. If you’re one of those eager
travelers, the idea of bringing drinking water with you may have
crossed your mind. That’s not a bad idea, especially if you may
be travelling across unfamiliar areas or to hot, desert climates.
Dehydration is a serious health problem; one you want to avoid.
There are, however, important precautions you should
take––don’t just pour water into any old container and throw
it in the trunk. Your family’s health could be at risk. Some
important guidelines you should follow: You can use: (a) a
beverage container that is cleaned and rinsed with Chester Water
Authority water; (b) a clean, unused container; (c) a sterilized
glass bottle; or (d) a container previously containing bottled
water. Note: Do not use containers previously used for dairy
products.
Fill the container with Chester Water Authority water as high
in the container as you possibly can to minimize trapped air.
Store the water in a cool, dark place––the cooler and
darker the better.
Exactly how long water prepared in this way will stay fresh
depends upon the sterilization procedures and storage environment.
Remember to re-sterilize the container before using it again.
