Hydrant Maintenance Means Better Water

Chester Water Authority flushes fire hydrants periodically as part of a proactive preventive maintenance program to assure proper hydrant operation and to maintain high water quality.

During each flushing process, Authority service representatives inspect and operate each hydrant to assure proper operation and to generally change the water in the distribution system.

Hydrants Are For Fires

When a fire breaks out, one of the last things on our minds is whether the fire hydrant is working. That’s because we take for granted that water for fighting fires will be there when we need it. But that isn’t necessarily the case if the hydrant has been opened illegally for hot weather cooling.

Illegal opening of fire hydrants wastes this valuable natural resource and can significantly reduce water pressure. It also can cause damage to hydrants. And if the fire department needs that water to save your life or your property, it may not be available. An illegally opened hydrant puts out 1000 gallons of water per minute.

Remember, hydrants are for fires. Protecting your hydrants is one way of protecting your family.
