Y2K and CWA: Ready, Set, Go!
Everyone seems to be wondering about the "Millennium
Bug." What will happen at 12:01 am on January 1, 2000? The
Chester Water Authority (CWA) has been preparing for the Year 2000
for the last several years. We put a formal plan in place last
year to assure that the Authority is "Year 2000
Compliant."
At CWA, we are going through a rigorous series of tests to make
sure every piece of equipment in our plant, pumping stations, and
offices is fully compliant. This means not only the huge motors
which drive the water treatment facilities, but also the copy
machines and elevators in our offices. Our master checklist
contains hundreds of items. As each piece of equipment is tested,
a record is made of its performance. Any equipment which does not
meet the compliance standards has been upgraded or replaced.
Because we have been aware of the possible Year 2000 issues for
a number of years, we have made sure that all of the computers and
software purchased by CWA within the last three years are already
certified compliant.
What does this mean for you? It means you can look forward to
toasting in the new year with a big glass of pure CWA water!
